In response to the EPA’s crackdown on the worst impacts of mountaintop removal, the coal industry is promoting a Virginia bill designed to prevent effective enforcement of the law. This bill would tie the state’s hands by limiting the authority of the Water Pollution Control Board and other regulatory bodies to even consider water toxicity testing or water quality monitoring in determining whether a discharge could cause violation of water quality standards.

The bill would make it impossible for the state to enforce the EPA’s water quality standards. Please take the time to ask your state senator to oppose SB 1025. A vote will happen on MONDAY the 7th. They need to hear from you today!

The most effective action you can take is to simply call your state senator now. You can get their name and phone name here by entering your zip code.

  • Tell them your name and where you live.
  • Ask them to oppose SB 1025
  • Tell them: State agencies must use all available tools and information to enforce our clean water laws.

Please also use the form below to send your senator an e-mail with more detail on the bill’s impacts.
